PIONEERING DESIGNER TO HEAD UP NEW BROADCAST GRAPHICS TEAM

Award winning broadcast graphic designer, Matthew Baxter, is to head up a new graphics team at Hampshire based post production specialist, DVA. Matthew was managing director of Baxter Hobbins Sides and subsequently became creative director for Sky News. The relaunched channel, including the now much imitated 'news wall' presenter stage, won the Royal Television Society news channel of the year award two years running. He led the creative team for the launch of Sky News Active, the world's first fully interactive news service.

Matthew started his television career with the original design team for the BBC Breakfast Time show, the first live broadcast to use electronic graphics. He was pivotal in inventing the way graphic design is now used in television. Later, Matthew moved on to lead the Newsnight team in winning its first ever RTS award for graphic design.

From purpose built 10,000 square foot studios, DVA’s highly skilled team works across a multitude of platforms from crewing and graphics to offline and online editing and compositing. It has facilities for audio, video editing, DVD authoring, print design and web development.

Barrie Gibson, managing director at DVA said, “We have developed a niche for ourselves with programme graphics but are increasingly being asked to do a lot more titles and indents,” he continued, “We took the decision to expand into this area and have invested in some heavyweight expertise by hiring Matthew to set up the new team.”

DVA’s broadcast clients include BBC, Twenty Twenty productions, Meridian, Blakeway productions, Discovery channel and Cicada films. For further information on the services that DVA has to offer, visit www.dvafacilities.co.uk.
